A Poncho For Winter

Well, it's supposed to be winter but it's been in the 40's & 50's for 2 weeks.

I started this Moonstone Poncho designed by my talented friend Kelly as a test knit. I didn't realize it had lace in it at the time and was determined to knit from my stash. So, I chose tonal stripes based on a sweater I had seen and loved on Ravelry.

When I found out about the lace panels, I was worried. Stripes and lace? Hmm.

But I think it will work out. The lace breaks up the stripes visually so it won't look like a big ruby shirt (remember those?). And the drape of the poncho makes the lines more diagonal than horizontal - I'm quite short; I need to think about these things.

It's a fantastic first lace project. Uses easy stitches: yo, skp, k2tog. And because the lace is in panels it become obvious really quickly if you've made a mistake so you don't end up tearing out rows and rows to correct a mistake. Plus you get the break of plain knit panels between the lace.

    1. It's truly painful not to be able to sit and finish it today. I could have it find in an afternoon. I'm so surprised how quickly it goes being that it's lace!

    2. It really is a fun pattern. Just enough detail to keep your attention but not so complex that you need to be alone to successfully complete it.

  6. I think your stripes would look just fine on the poncho. It looks like the pattern was designed to use leftover stash yarn. And I think I'm adding that poncho to my Rav queue....

    1. It was, Donna! I can't wait to finish this one and then cast on another for my daughter using all my little leftovers. Wouldn't a colorful one be fun for a little girl. I need to get Kelly to rewrite the pattern for kids.
